  1. as i see this picture plenty of ideas come to my mind. i see art. ( i know it is) i recently studied this photo in my art class. by making it black and white it gives it a more mono-toned meaning. it helps you really pay attention to the real detail of this photo. you see the mothers distressed and worried look upon her face. you see her children cuddled up on her sides. they all look tired and sad. while looking you can almost get a feeling of sadness with the passing of time.

  2. When I first look at this photograph the concerned look on the mothers face stands out to me. But then looking closer you see her two children shying away from whatever is happening right in front of them. It is left up the imagination to decide what in fact is going on maybe a fight or their father is no where to be found, its completely up to you to decide. It appears to be a candid shot taken up close and the black and white color seems to give it a sad and dark feel to it.

  3. This picture uses sympathy to make a point. It draws on the human emotion to make you feel bad for the mother and her children. The mother has a strong yet distraught look on her face, which appears to be dirty and worn. Her children are also dirty, wearing tattered old clothing, and are seemingly upset. The family looks unkempt and miserable. Pity and sympathy are some of the strongest human emotions and looking at this picture, I truly feel bad for this poor family. The depiction of distress, especially among the children, really triggers this emotion. The mother looks away from the camera in what looks like sadness and helplessness. Since the image is close-up it intensifies the depiction and makes it stand out more. The black and white tone could symbolize a number of things. It could be adding to the overall drabness of the family or it could be extending on the fact of how poor they are and what little they have, including color. Overall, I think it is easy to see that the photographer is trying to make those who view this picture sympathetic towards the family depicted.

  4. This is a very intense image we have here to analyze. This image can have a variety of meanings and could be looked at different from many perspectives. The picture is shot close up which increases the intensity of the image tells us that the people are the main focus of the picture. This picture was taken in front view perspective which tends to focus more on the people in the image rather than the back round. In the picture you can see the lady looking away form the camera which could mean several different things. One thing that this could mean is that she is shy or another is maybe she is in sorrow and feeling down. I think the photographer used some kind of filter on this picture considering it is black and white to make a certain affect on the image and set a certain mood. The way i look at this image is that it is family that has been left homeless after some kind of disaster of some sort.If you look at their clothes they are some what torn up and look kinda dirty. No matter how you look at this image there will always be a numerous amount of different perspectives on what this image is really about.

  5. This photograph carries a very serious tone. The photographer positions the camera straight on to focus on the woman directly and her attributes. The woman is gazing away from the camera lens maybe implying that she is uninterested in being photographed and that she has bigger issues at hand. The woman is placed at the very center of the photo making her the focal point and drawing most of the attention to her. This is a very plain, black and white photo which supports the overall serious tone. Another thing is the secondary attention that is focused on the two children on either side of the woman. They both have their heads turned away from the camera and are leaning on what probably is their mom's shoulders. It almost implies that the children might be crying, giving the photo even more of a serious and even upsetting tone. All of their clothes seem to be old, torn, and dirty. They also seem to have not had a shower/bath in quite awhile. To me the photo screams poverty and almost portrays a signal of help the audience.

  6. When I first look at this picture the fact that it is in black and white stands out to me. I feel like it makes the image more powerful. The picture was taken close up which increases the intensity. I dont think this picture was staged because the mother in the picture seems to be staring off into space, she has a very forlorn expression on her face. The kids turning away from the camera gives them a sense of shyness. The picture is taken head on which emphasizes the people. The background of the photo doesnt seem to be as important or relevant. The clothing they're wearing gives the audience the perception that the people are most likely poor. Theres a very dark feel t it. It makes me sad to look at it. It envokes a lot of emotion.

  7. After looking at this photograph, I noticed a lot of things I could analyze. On thing i noticed was the distance between the Mother and the photographer. The photographer take a close-up which makes this image seem more intense and important. Almost like the photographer is trying to get some message across to the viewer. Another thing i noticed was the Mother's expression on her face. Her eyes look worried, sad, and concerned, while her brow line looks focused and determined. The way she hold her hand up to her face makes it look like she's thinking about something. I also noticed the appearance of the Mother and her children. They are all in rag-like clothing and their skin and hair look dirty. It gives off a poverty look. Another thing I noticed, is the way her children are clinging to her. They look as though they are scared or frightened about something and that they think of their Mother as protection. After looking at this photo for about 10 minutes, I get a sad and guilty feeling. I feel sad because it looks like they are really scared and worried about how they are going to survive and I feel guilty because I know I've got it better than they do. Sometimes I think I have it pretty rough, but in reality I have it easy. Especially compared to the Mother and her children in this picture.

  8. This image uses both angle techniques and compositional features to pose its' message. The first thing I notice is the black and white contrast of the image. This to me makes the image more intense and increases the drama behind it. Whenever I see a black and white photo I feel as if it is done in this contrast almost so you can put your own perspecive into it. Also I believe it makes you focus on the image and expression of the face and does not allow you to be distracted by colors. The next thing i see is that by having the subject (the woman and children) so close up it also intensifies the drama of the image. It focuses on the woman's face and her expression. Her eyes are facing away symbolizing shyness or distraction. Judging by the wrinkles in her forehead and the distance in her eyes it seems like she is thinking of her next move and how she is going to survive with her children. The dead on shot again makes it impossible to avoid the womans facial expression and draws your eyes directly into hers. By having the children look away once again you are forced to look at the woman while also using them as background giving you insight to her life and letting you know she has a family and children on her mind. Th background of the image give little but enough information to the woman's life. It seems like they are in the back of a truck or something which them makes you think she is looking outside the back and seeing memories as she drives away. This makes sense of the title allowing you to realize that she is a migrant woman moving with her children into a new life.

  9. The first you notice when you start to analyze this image is the woman in the center of the photo. She is clearly the subject of photo and is meant to be the center of your focus. You lake at her facial expression and can that this photo is meant to carry a sad or overall negative feeling. She is looking away from the camera and off into the distance. The fact that she is looking away from the camera can imply a sense of helplessness. When you consider the point of view of the photo of view in the picture you can tell that the photographer shot this image in way to make you feel as though you might be standing near this person looking over at them. The fact that this image is close to the subject helps to intensify the feeling of the image.

  10. There are a lot of things about aspects that make me analyze details within this photograph. One thing that I noticed first is the mother's face. It is filled with concern and worry, maybe for the lifestyle situation they are in or even something bigger than that. I then noticed the two small children leaning on her for support but also hiding themselves from whatever is out there. This also presents a protection vibe from the woman who I am assuming is the mother. another think I noticed when analyzing this photo that continues with previous observations is that they are dirty and they look warn down. This is shown mostly in their hair and their clothes. Also the angle that the photograph was taken seems like the person taking it was just walking through the streets of a city, saw this woman and her children and took a candid from behind the corner. it's very effective because since the eyes of the mother are not focused on the camera it shows that they are focused on something else.
