Essay Two Topics

Write a little bit about the topics you're considering for your second essay (by posting as a comment). Which form (annotated bib. or exploratory essay) are you considering? If you're having a hard time, let us know. Feel free to respond to others' posts.

  1. My topic will be about Construction Management, which I plan on going into, and it will be an exploratory essay. The two major topics I've learned from working in the field and from my dad, are...
    1) The ohio building code: because of it's constant change, it is very hard to follow, which leads to constant conflict with the state.
    2) Going Green: Everybody wants to go green, but isn't willing to pay the extra money for it. Most people don't reep the long-term benefits of the price because they don't stay in the home for long enough.

There's a few more such as workers comp, which is huge in construction because of the bigger risk of getting injured.

  2. My major is biology and I'm not too sure what my paper is going to be about. I'm pretty set on the annotated bibliography. I've had interest in the field of physical therapy for a while so that is one main topic that i have been thinking about. One other topic I have been thinking about is genetically engineered foods and animals.

  3. My topic will be about controversial issues in Athletic Training. I can't decide if I want to do an annotated bibliography or exploratory essay yet, because I could do either. Some topics that I am interested in researching are:
    1) Concussions: it's one of the most confusing and frustrating injuries in athletics and the effects and treatments for concussions are always changing.
    2) The Effectiveness and Safety of Explosive Exercises used to Strengthen and Condition Athletes: studies show that exercises such as weight lifting to a fast cadence and plyometrics do not trasfer well to athletic performance on and off the field and increase risk factors.
    3) Acclimatization: a 14 day period prior to full scale athletic participation that is recommended for all teams. It's basically a plan or lay-out of what the first practices should consist of to prevent heat/cold illnesses, injuries, and even sudden death. It helps athletes get back into shape and used to the climate. Not all coaches use this because it is only a recommendation, and it's also fairly new to the Athletic Training field.

  4. My major is business and I'm going to write an exploratory essay.I'm not totally sure what i am going to write my paper about but i am thinking about either globalization trade or financial fraud and how we can stop it. Does anyone think that either of these would be a good topic? or does anyone have any better ideas?

  5. Andrew--the more specific you can be now, the easier the choice between the two ideas will be. Keep in mind how you're not supposed to have a thesis statement just yet, but it needs to be controversial. So keep thinking with these things in mind...

    Everyone else--so far so good.

  6. I have 2 areas of study: English and Art History. What I'd really love to go into is publishing. One idea I have is to write about the issues with the types of literature being taught in English classes. There's controversy with Gay and Lesbian lit, as well as Religious lit. Another idea is to write about the issue of big cities cutting funding for art, but I have a pretty strong opinion about that already.

  7. I plan to go into Physical Therapy. I'm not sure what kind of paper I'm going to write yet. My two ideas for my paper are:
    1) the transition from PT being a masters program to a doctorate program.
2)How much modalities should be used in treatment and which ones should be used.

  8. I am majoring in Ecology and I am not quite sure what I want to write about, but I am thinking about writing about birds. I think it would be interesting to research the vitamin deficiencies in captive birds. I don't know what else I could write about...maybe tanning beds and cancer?

  9. My current major is biology, I'm not positive on what my topic will be, but I will be doing an annotated bibliography. One option for my topic is the destruction of rain forests that contain thousands of plant species that may be the key to curing or treating many diseases such as Alzheimer's and cancer. Another possibility would be the ongoing problem of finding an alternative energy source to coal.

  12. I'd want to use material on Insurance, or MIS systems to incorporate into my paper, and keep me motivated with in the business side of papers. This is the most interesting side of my major that I'm curious to understand more about other then your broad home and health insurance. And most likely in Annotated Bib form.

  17. I thnk I am going to want to write and exploritory essay based on issues relating to Communication. I am still not postitive about what I want to write about but I think I am leaning towards:
    1. The effects excess advertisement is having on its effectivness on the population.
    or
    2. The transitioning of ways information and media is being presented to us
I might decide that these issues are too broad and that I will want to find something more interesting or specific but I think they are a good start...

  20. My major is video production and my essay will probably cover a issue in the film industry. I think for my second essay i will do an annotated bib because i have never done one before and want to learn how to do one because i think it can be very useful. The two topics I'm considering are the Glass ceiling theory for the film industry and this is questions if film has reached its height of maturity and my other topic is concerning piracy and how the industry is trying to prevent it.
