Technology Article

In this article about how technology is ever constant in our lives one question that came to mind when they mentioned blending peoples real life with their virtual lives. They used examples like creating avatars and online games. The question that i thought was are these people creating these fantasies and playing these games to escape reality and have a better "virtual" life. Another thing i noticed from the article was how dependent we are with our cell phones. It seems like now a days if you loose your phone you feel disconnected from everything in the world. Secondly it also mentioned about people looking down under the table to check their phones at dinner with someone. My question is that, Has this been accepted as OK by our society? i feel that it is really rude. someone cant honestly go less than a hour without checking their phone. I feel its more insulting to your dinner partner since its like saying "your so boring and my phone is more entertaining than you"

  1. I agree with Jacob when he said that some people are trying to escape reality and create a more ideal life. It is good to grow with technology rather be consumed by it!

  2. I agree with this statement as well. Instead of going out into the real world and accomplishing something meaningful and worthwhile, some people choose easy escape routes to make life seem simple and easy when that is not true at all. Also I too believe that checking your phone while having dinner with someone or when someone else is talking is one the rudest things a person can do. You make the other person feel stupid and like nothing they say matters and that you are better than and more important than them.

  3. I would have to agree with Jacob's opinion about how it's rude to always be checking your phone while your with someone. When I am talking with a friend I don't like to be interrupted by the phone call or text. Yet, I do the exact same thing when my phone rings. I think it has become an acceptable thing in our society and although I don't agree with it, I do it anyway. It's almost like being addicted to type of drug. Maybe not as extreme, but similar. Today, people can't continue on with life unless they check their phone, emails, Facebook, etc. every 10 minutes. It's becoming a bad habit that everyone fails to notice.

  4. I agree with Sara and Jacob that we shouldn't let technology consume us but we definitely should grow with it because technology has brought some great advances to our lives. On the other side in relation to the point about texting during dinner. I agree with this statement. I feel like when I go out to eat with anyone even my friends everyone's cell phones are on the table so they can easily text people throughout the meal. Cant we be satisfied with the people were with? Do we have to be connected to everyone. But at the same time society has made this an acceptable thing.
